  • Young People’s Convention - Day 1

    The combined singing communities of southeast Pennsylvania are thrilled to announce that the 41st Annual Young People’s Singing will be held on Saturday, September 28th, and Sunday, September 29th at the Nyce Barn at the Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Rd, Harleysville, PA 19438. The singings will be held from 9:30 AM-3:30 PM on both days, with registration opening at 9 AM. There will be dinner on the grounds in the afternoon and a social on Saturday evening.
    On Saturday we will sing from The Sacred Harp (1991 edition), with Sunday TBA.

    The Young People’s Singing is organized by young people but welcomes people of all ages.

  • Valley Pocket Harmonist

    We are happy to announce that the long process of putting together the Valley Pocket Harmonist (VPH) is nearing completion.

    We have sent the final proofs to the printer; and we expect to have the books in our hands by mid-October. At that point we’ll start distributing the books.

    There are 45 contemporary composers and arrangers represented in this book. Of the 391 songs in the book, about half are new compositions or arrangements of older tunes. We are excited to present these beautiful and wide-ranging shape-note songs to the singing community.

    At this point our plans are to have an official roll-out singing January 4-5 in Berryville VA. Our plan is to have a traditional all day singing format, with some emphasis on the attending composers on Saturday. On Sunday we would like to try a workshop/theme format (details to follow).
